The group’s main line of research is translational and consists of developing biomarkers for various neuromuscular diseases with the aim of implementing them in clinical practice. The objective is to develop clinical, biological, and neurophysiological tools that will allow us to practice precision medicine. We currently have two funded projects (AES and Luzon Foundation) for the development of a panel of biological biomarkers in ALS patients. We are coordinating this study, which involves other centers such as the Hospital of Lleida, the 12 de Octubre Hospital, and the University Hospital of Montpellier. Furthermore, we also have ongoing biomarker projects for other neuromuscular diseases (Myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré, CIDP, etc.) thanks to competitive grants awarded by the pharmaceutical industry. Finally, the group is also developing new genetic diagnostic techniques (Exome sequencing, RNA-seq, and genome sequencing) applied to patients without a definitive diagnosis.
