In 2025, the group advanced ongoing projects aimed at expanding the organ donor pool through innovative techniques. Recruitment was completed for key studies, including MIE-DON a multicenter trial on mechanical insufflation-exsufflation in deceased donor maintenance to increase lung availability, MPS-LOC y 3D-LIVER, developing liver-on-chip systems using microfluidics, 3D printing, and human liver cells to replace animal models, and ECABOX, focused on preserving human eye viability for regenerative therapies and future transplantation. Other projects, such as PRECOCE on corneal preservation with novel antioxidants and MTHiV exploring portal blood to enhance liver maturation and bioengineered tissue, also progressed. The addition of Plastic Surgery specialists has expanded research into skin and other composite tissue transplantation.
