During 2025, the group advanced research on the interplay between diet, lifestyle, and host factors in shaping the gut microbiome and its role in IBD. Using population-based cohorts and multi-omics integration, we identified microbial signatures linked to inflammation and disease, and characterized early microbiome alterations in individuals at risk of IBD, including first-degree relatives. We demonstrated that these individuals exhibit transitional microbiome states with distinct taxonomic and virulence features, enabling risk stratification. The group also implemented innovative citizen science approaches to collect large-scale dietary and lifestyle data, strengthening real-world evidence generation. These efforts resulted in several peer-reviewed publications and reinforced leadership in multidisciplinary, data-driven microbiome research.
