The SODIR research group conducts integrated, innovative research in critically ill patients, supported by strong multidisciplinary and international networks. In 2025, it maintained high-impact scientific activity in intensive care, with influential publications and knowledge transfer to healthcare systems. Key areas include acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, and extracorporeal support, with multicenter studies on ARDS, COVID‑19, ECMO use, patient selection, outcomes, and ICU organization. In sepsis, septic shock, and healthcare-associated infections, SODIR advanced biomarker-guided therapies (ASTONISH), validated SOFA‑2, applied OMICS, and investigated antimicrobial resistance and novel treatments. Additional contributions cover ICU quality, infection prevention, European big data and AI databases, and critical care in oncology and transplantation, strengthening global leadership and resilient, innovative healthcare systems.
